Coin acceptors are standard in most vending machines. The vending machines coin acceptors will accept all coins and will pay back only certain coins. For example in the USA, the coin acceptors will pay back:

.05, .10, .25, 1.00 [Susan B Anthony coin]

In Canada the coin acceptors will accept all coins and pay back:

.05, .10, .25, 1.00, 2.00 coins

Coin acceptors can be programmed to work with any kind of currency and they also can be programmed to work with generic tokens.

Bill validators are set to read in the USA $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 Bills. The bill validator will operate with the coin machine and together they decide if they can take a bill and make change. If it does not have the correct “float” the machine will change its status and require exact change only. It should be noted that certain bills can be locked out if you don’t want to receive them, i.e. $100 and $50 bill may require too much “change” so they are “locked out” until you as the operator activate them.

In certain circumstances it is possible to install Bill Validator Recyclers. These machines hold either a $1, or $5 bills [30 of your choice]. The can be connected to a vending machine with a coin acceptor and a cashless device. When some one makes a payment for a product with a large bill, the recycler will issue both coins and bills to make the correct change.
